Living and working in the Sydney CBD

There are specific emergency plans in place for the Sydney and North Sydney CBD which you should be aware of if you work or live in the Sydney CBD or North Sydney.

Sydney CBD Emergency Sub–Plan

The Sub-Plan details the arrangements in place for the Sydney CBD during an emergency, such as the process for evacuation and safety sites.

sydneyALERT

sydneyALERT is a free, opt-in community warning service for Sydney and North Sydney CBD building managers, security teams and fire wardens.

sydneyALERT sends out email and text messages from the NSW Police Force in the event of a significant incident within the Sydney and/or North Sydney CBD. Information provided could include directions on evacuation or shelter-in-place instructions, or information on transport closures.

Emergency warning system

Speakers in SydneyA public address system has been installed within the Sydney CBD to assist with informing people of key safety messages during a major incident in the city.

A siren/PA system has been installed throughout the Sydney CBD, and electronic variable message signs (VMS) are located at major transport precincts.
