Message from the Director General
Welcome to secureNSW, the one stop shop for counter terrorism information for the New South Wales (NSW) community.
This website is the first of its kind in Australia. It reflects a partnership between the NSW Police Force and the Department of Premier and Cabinet, highlighting our shared commitment to providing the community with information about this important issue.
The horrific attacks on the World Trade Centre, Bali and the Madrid and London transport systems have resulted in the need for real changes to the way we view and respond to terrorism. The attacks in Mumbai have reinforced the need to maintain our effort and vigilance.
Terrorist methods are constantly evolving and to counter this, we too must continue improving our prevention and planning capabilities. The NSW Government regards the issue of terrorism very seriously and we work closely with the Commonwealth and other State and Territory governments to prevent terrorism in Australia.
NSW is Australia’s most populous state and we are leading the nation by providing an elite level of counter terrorism resources. NSW has over 600 dedicated counter terrorism officers in the NSW Police Force, tough counter terrorism laws and we have procured and developed the world’s most technically advanced equipment.
No one can guarantee that NSW is completely safe from terrorism but we can continue to enhance our capability to give us the best chance to prevent any acts of terrorism from occurring. The NSW Government continues to develop ways to fight terrorism.
We are committed to ensuring the people of NSW would be kept well informed if an incident occurred. The secureNSW website is one component of our multi-faceted approach to informing the NSW community before, during and after an incident.
Please take the time to navigate secureNSW, where you will find a vast amount of information relating to counter terrorism - everything from the plans and arrangements that will be activated in a terrorist incident to details on what you personally can do to protect yourself, your family and your business.
